About $4.5 billion has been spent by the Iranian Government to forge a domestic intranet that would tighten the already harsh restrictions on the internet access of Iranian people.
The regime has also claimed that it is due to the protection of "national security” that they shutdown connections to global websites, a catch-all concept to stop protests, assemble and associate, all of which are protected within the Iranian constitution, although not very strongly.
As a result of the restrictions, access to thousands of websites is blocked by the government including Facebook, Twitter, BBC and so on.
To access blocked websites and apps, most Iranians would use VPN, a Virtual Private Network app set up on one's device, although it can slow things down considerably, but with Vista VPN, it can even boost your internet speed on certain websites or games.
